Cencelli Library

libriThe Alberto Cencelli Science Library of the former Santa Maria della Pietà Psychiatric Hospital contains about 9,000 volumes, and includes a collection of antique texts from the 16th to the 18th centuries as well as a modern section, located in a large reading room, which includes volumes from 1800 to 1993.

In addition to this treasure trove of documents and books, the library boasts numerous works received from private donors, and a large collection of periodicals. The library, which already owned a large collection of paper materials (La Biblioteca Cencelli del Santa Maria della Pietà in Roma Catalogo del fondo antico sec. XVI-XVIII [The Cencelli Library of Santa Maria della Pietà in Rome Catalogue of the Antique Collection from the 16th to the 18th Centuries], ICCU [Central Institute for a Single Catalogue] of Italian Libraries and for Library Information, A.Vecchiarelli-L.Baldacchini, Rome 1988; 1800-1950 Un Catalogo per la pazzia. La Biblioteca Cencelli del Santa Maria della Pietà [1800-1950 A Catalogue of Insanity. Cencelli Library of Santa Maria della Pietà], Vecchiarelli Editore, Rome 1992), was included, with the assistance of the Cultural Office of the Lazio Region, in the National Library System.

The Cencelli Library features a collection of Periodicals for Users of Mental Health Services. Periodical editors are encouraged to send a copy of each issue they publish to the Cencelli Library, Piazza S. Maria della Pietà 5, 00135 Rome. A collection catalogue will soon be available on this site.
